Training: Participatory scenario development and computer-assisted qualitative analysis

One of the most important parts in a project like GLAMURS, where several institutions work together on a common topic, is the exchange of ideas and results as they go along in their research process. Between February 25th and 28th the GLAMURS team members gathered in A Coruna, Spain for two workshops. The first day was dedicated to a back casting training aimed to provide a basic understanding of what back-casting is and how it can be used in the GLAMURS project in order to develop future visions for sustainable lifestyles. Jaco Quist from the Technological University of Delft was responsible for the training. He guided the participants through cases of participatory back-casting and vision development and allowed time for a back-casting simulation.

Thursday and Friday a two-day training with the title “Using Atlas.ti for qualitative data analysis” provided an overview of qualitative data analysis using the ATLAS.ti software. The trainer for this workshop was Eugenio de Gregorio from the University of Genoa. He started off with an explanation of the theoretical and methodological premises for qualitative research and an introduction to the software. After a few discussions on related topics, Gregorio gave some input on how to report information in publications, papers and conferences.

In order to introduce the participants to the region, on Saturday the remaining scientists undertook a day-long trip to Santiago de Compostela led by a professional tour-guide through the city.
