West University of Timişoara

The West University of Timisoara is a public university created in 1944 to serve the western part of the country. It is part of a consortium of the four most important universities in Romania, and it has over 25,000 students. The People Environment-Research Unit is an interdisciplinary research group within the Centre for Psychological Studies and Research of the Department of Psychology, which has been very active in promoting environmental research and has experience in running large-scale projects.

Adina Dumitru

Adina Dumitru will coordinate the work for the Romanian case study. Adina Dumitru is a researcher at the University of A Coruna, Spain, and a member of the People-Environment Research Group. She has taught courses in Social Psychology as assistant professor at the West University of Timisoara. Her research focuses on the structural and individual determinants of pro-environmental behavior, on participatory processes for designing transition pathways and on the barriers to and drivers of sustainable practices in workplaces and communities. She has also worked on issues of risk perception and management as well as issues of justice in processes of political transitions from dictatorships to democracies. She is experienced in both qualitative and quantitative methods of psychological research. She has just finished working on a FP-7 funded European project (LOCAW). She has been a Fulbright Scholar in Political Psychology in the United States, at Washington State University. She was a visiting lecturer at the University of A Coruna (Spain), a member of the sustainability network of the University of Umea (Sweden) and has also been a visiting researcher at the National Autonomous University of México. She has extensive experience working in international research projects.

Florin Alin Sava

Florin Alin Savais Associate Professor at West University of Timisoara, Head of Psychology Department. He received his Ph.D. in Psychology from Babes-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca in 2005. Most of his teaching experience is related with West University of Timisoara, but he also taught at the Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy Department from Babes-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca, as a visiting academic. He coordinates the activities of a research-oriented company specialized in test development and field surveys. His research interests focus on implicit assessment and intervention techniques, introducing the Semantic Misattribution Procedure (SMP) in the area of personality self-concept. He also examines the efficacy of various types of evaluative conditioning (EC) for a range of behaviors related to health (smoking cessation, healthy diet) and career development (strengthening a positive attitude towards the job search behaviors). He has been a member in several international research projects and he has worked in the LOCAW (Low Carbon at Work – FP7) Project.He is the recipient of the Early Career Award for Best Researcher within West University of Timisoara (2009), of the second prize on a National Competition – The Education Award Gala -, Professor of the Year category (2009). Most of his teaching activity is linked to intermediate and advanced topics related to research methods and data analysis techniques.

Irina Macsinga

Irina Macsinga is an associate professor at West University of Timisoara and received her Ph.D. from Babes-Bolyai University, in 2005, with a thesis addressing an interdisciplinary topic, with influences from cognitive psychology and neurosciences. Her main research interests focus on personality and implicit methods in personality assessment, social cognition and the applications of cognitive psychology in educational and organizational field. Most of her teaching activity is linked to personality theoretical models, research methods in personality assessment, and cognitive approach to mental processes and decision making. Her researches focused on the relation between needs and competencies for the academic staff, the successful intelligence and academic performance, Conditional Reasoning Test as implicit method in personality assessment, Five-Factor Model of personality, personal and situational determinants of positive organizational outcomes, Quality Management in Higher Education. She is a member of the Romanian Psychologists’ Association, member of the editorial staff of the Romanian Journal of Applied Psychology, and head of the Second Committee in West University Senate.

Ion Dumitru

West University of Timisoara, Romania

Ion Dumitru s Professor at West University of Timisoara and received his PhD in Psychology from University of Bucharest in 2005. He is the Head of Educational Sciences Department and coordinates the Master in Pedagogical Counseling and Educational Integration. He is national trainer in Reading and Writing for Critical Thinking, certified in this field by Hobart and William Smith Colleges, the International Reading Association and the University of Northern Iowa, USA. He attended several trainings abroad in Development Psychology area (UK), Management of Change in Education (Hungary), and Adults Education (Germany). His main research interests focus on personality psychology, the study of attitudes, values and preferences, adult education, and blended learning processes. He is an expert evaluator in national research programs and founding director of the Journal of Educational Sciences (West University of Timisoara).

Vlad Pandur

Vlad Pandur is a research assistant at the West University of Timișoara’s Department of Psychology. He graduated in 2012 at The West University, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, and is currently in the process of completing a Master’s Dissertation in Organizational and Occupational Health Psychology. Research interests revolve around environmentally relevant workplace behaviours, extra-role employee behaviours and other related topics in organizational psychology.
