University of A Coruna (Spain)

The University of A Coruna (Spain) is a new university created in the early 1990s when it separated from the 500-year-old University of Santiago de Compostela. It has more than 25000 students and more than one hundred research groups. Within the university, the Department of Psychology is one of the most productive in terms of research, especially in the field of environmental psychology. The People-Environment Research Group is a consolidated research group within the Spanish structure of research and development and has been the leader of research in humanities and environmental issues for the last five years. UDC has recently coordinated the LOCAW project and is currently coordinating the GLAMURS project.

Ricardo García Mira

GLAMURS Project Coordinator
Ricardo García-Mira is Professor of Social and Environmental Psychology at the University of A Coruna. He was a Visiting Reader at the Department of Psychology at the University of Surrey (2003-2012) and an International Visiting Scholar at the State University of Texas (2001), and has been invited to other universities over the last 10 years (like Texas State University, Tallinn Estonia, UNAM Mexico, UVT, Paris V, Texas A&M etc) to give seminars and lectures. He is the elected President of the International Association for People-Environment Studies (IAPS) for the period 2014-2018. He has been an active researcher over the last 20 years, evaluating the environmental impact of social problems (i.e. Prestige disaster, 2006: Fires in the Northwest of Spain, 2006). He has extensive experience in managing and leading research projects with support from the Galician Government, the Ministry of Science, and the European Commission (EFRD and FP7). He is currently the coordinator of LOCAW and GLAMURS (FP7), and a partner in TRANSIT (FP7). Some recent publications include: “Culture, Environmental Action and sustainability” (Hogrefe, 2003)”; “Housing, Space and Quality of Life” (2005, Ashgate), and “Sustainability, values and environmental culture” (2009, Pirámide).

Adina Dumitru

WP4 Leader
Adina Dumitru is Researcher at the University of A Coruna, Spain, and a member of the People-Environment Research Group (www.people-environment-udc.org). She has taught courses in Social Psychology as Assistant Professor at the West University of Timisoara. Her research focuses on the structural and individual determinants of pro-environmental behavior, on participatory processes for designing transition pathways and on the barriers to and drivers of sustainable practices in workplaces and communities. She has also worked on issues of risk perception and management as well as issues of justice in processes of political transitions from dictatorships to democracies. She is experienced in both qualitative and quantitative methods of psychological research. She has just finished working on a FP-7 funded European project (LOCAW). She has been a Fulbright Scholar in Political Psychology in the United States, at Washington State University. She was a visiting lecturer of the University of A Coruna (Spain), a member of the Sustainability network of the University of Umea (Sweden) and has also been a visiting researcher at the National Autonomous University of México. She has extensive experience working in international research projects.

Maria Jesús Freire-Seoane

María Jesús Freire-Seoane is Full Professor of Economic Analysis at the University of A Coruna (Spain), PhD in Economics by the University of Santiago de Compostela. Her research interests include Applied Macroeconomics, Econometric Theory and Labour Economics. She is the Director of the Occupational Observatory at the University of A Coruna, and Auditor of the General Registry of the Treasury Department of Spain. She has carried out research during the last 15 years. Her recent projects include: European Marketing and Innovation Centers (EMIC), 2012 –partner- EC; Innovation strategies in regional companies, Regional Government, 2012; Regional competitiveness according to new maritime transport schemes, Regional Government, 2011.

Bernardo Hernández Ruíz

University of La Laguna, Spain

Bernardo Hernández Ruíz holds a Chair in Social Psychology at the University of La Laguna. He teaches Psychosocial and Organizational Intervention. He has published in: Journal of Environmental Psychology, Environment and Behavior of Human Ecology Review. He is the Editing Director of Psyecology and reviewer of several scientific journals of his field. Recent publications include: “The relationship between social and environmental Interdependence as an explanation of pro-environmental behavior” Human Ecology Review (2012). “Effect of urban vegetation on psychological restorativeness. Psychological Reports” (2005).

Miguel Muñoz Cantero

Miguel Muñoz Cantero is Professor of Diagnostic Methods in Education, and Head of the Department of Research and Diagnostic Methods at the University of A Coruna. He leads the Research Group on Educational Evaluation and Quality Assurance (GIACE). He received his PhD from the University of Santiago de Compostela. He was a visiting researcher in several Brazilian universities, where he supervised a number of doctoral dissertations. Auditor of quality management systems for the International Organization for Standardization or European Fundation of Quality Management (EFQM). His research interests include: i) Evaluation of quality in university and non-university educational institutions; ii) educational evaluation and qualitative and quantitative methodologies; and iii) evaluation of competencies in learning processes.

Xosé Luis Barreiro Rivas

Xosé Luís Barreiro Rivas is Professor of Political Science at the University of Santiago de Compostela. He has published numerous articles and reference works on institutional development and public policies. Barreiro is a great communicator who has also held political positions of responsibility, as Vice-President and minister of the Xunta de Galicia between 1982 and 1988, as well as regional Deputy between 1981 and 1989. From 2006 to 2013 he was the director of the Center for teaching and research of the Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo (UIMP) in Galicia.

Isabel Lema Blanco

University of A Coruna, Spain

Isabel Lema Blanco has a Degree in Law, and is currently a PhD student in Environmental Education. She is currently a researcher at the University of A Coruna (Spain), and a member of the People-Environmental Research Group. Her research focuses on the study of social-environmental participation processes. She has studied the role of mass media in public environmental concern as well as its influence on social movements like “Nunca Máis” in Spain. She has published in the field of environmental risk perception and environmental communication. Furthermore, she has worked as a consultant for public institutions (state and regional government) developing several public participation processes and environmental communication strategies. She is a member of the executive board of a community radio in Galicia, cooperating with international networks as AMARC in order to promote the effective exercise of people’s right to communicate.

Alberto Díaz-Ayude

Alberto Díaz-Ayude has a Degree in Educational Psychology and Master in Human Resources Management, also Master in Applied Psychology by the University of A Coruna. He has also training in the field of Occupational Health and Safety and in the field of Work Psychology, Organizations and Human Resources, which has determined and influenced his interest in the Human Resources field. He has developed his professional career performing different positions in the field of Human Resources, likewise, he has collaborated on several projects with the Laboratory of Social Psychology at the University of A Coruña. He is currently preparing his PhD thesis in the field of Organizational Psychology, particularly on the issue about Perception of Risk and Environmental Risk of Workers in Organizations and Work Environments.

Marta Álvarez

Marta Álvarez has a Degree in Political Science and Master in International Business, she has worked in the private sector but especially for Civil Services and NGOs. She has experience in Project and Team Management. For the past years she has developed activities in the field of development cooperation and social action. She has publications in the field of Aid Effectiveness and she has collaborated with research on Business and Development, and Corporate Social Responsibility. She has managed projects of the European Social Fund and of the 7PM (LOCAW project: “Low Carbon at Work”, coordinated by the People-Environment Research Group at the UDC, Spain). She is currently the Project Manager of GLAMURS, a research project formed by 11 partners and funded by the FP7-European Commission, during the period 2014-2016.

Helena Martínez Cabrera

BA in Political Science from the University Pompeu Fabra of Barcelona, holding a Master’s Degree in Community Mediation and Social Policies from the Institute of Government and Social Policy at Barcelona. She has focused her work on the field of political participation. She also has collaborated with the Center for Studies on Social Movements at UPF, linked to UNESCO Chair for Intercultural Studies. She is co-author of half dozen articles and scientific papers in the area of Social Sciences. She has collaborated in the organization of events and academic conferences, and she has directed and participated on several media productions of international scope. She focuses her social involvement on cooperatives and other forms of social economy, on business and development, and corporate social responsibility. She has collaborated in the management of projects of the European Social Fund and of the 7PM (LOCAW project: “Low Carbon at Work”, coordinated by the People-Environment Research Group at the UDC, Spain).
